February 2018 Birchbox Review!

Over Christmas I cancelled my Birchbox subscription because money was tight…you know how it is. But now it’s back and I’m excited to show you my February 2018 box. I missed receiving these so much and don’t know how I coped!

This edition was called “Beauty Through The Decades” meaning you could choose your box theme – either 70s, 80s or 90s. I chose 90s because it’s my favourite decade and definitely had the nicer design!

1. Luseta Beauty Coconut Milk Hair Mask

I was SO excited to use this hair mask as my hair is quite dry and is in need of some TLC! The smell was gorgeous and it did leave my hair feeling soft after use. Nearly all of the reviews on the Birchbox website commented on how amazing it smells so I’m happy I wasn’t alone in that. However, one thing I will say is that it would not suit thick hair types. My hair is super thick and so I could literally only apply it onto the ends. Even if I did use the full sample bottle, it was quite hard to spread and massage into my hair which is a shame because I was really rooting for this product.

2. Smith & Cult Lip Lacquer

I got this product as a free gift alongside my main box – an offer that Birchbox regularly do and one I love! I’m always after new lipglosses/lipsticks and this one did not disappoint. My full size “lip lacquer” came in the shade “Hi Speed Sonnet” which is a perfect glossy pink for me. It smells like cake and isn’t too sticky – it literally applies like velvet. I’d never heard of this brand before but I’m so grateful I have now. Can’t wait to buy mores shades!

3. Lord & Berry Concealer Stick

At first I was a bit confused by this product. A concealer….in a pencil?! I always use cream based concealers so this product is very out there for me. Saying that, the pencil is really creamy and applies like a dream. It was very easy to blend and had good coverage too. The only thing I would say is that I received the shade “Beige” which is a little too dark for my skin. I tend to use really light concealers under my eyes and forehead/bridge of my nose, so I think I would only use this darker concealer primarily for spots to blend more into my foundation. Overall though, a really good product!

4. Cowshed Hand Cream

I’ve heard of this Cowshed brand before but never tried any of their products. I’m always in need of a good hand cream so I was happy I received this one. It was very moisturising and sat well on my skin, however I REALLY didn’t like the smell of it. I’m not keen on grapefruit at all and I don’t know why they mixed it with cinnamon. It’s a shame because I liked the formula but literally cannot get by with the smell. I think I’ll stick with my Soap & Glory Hand Food thanks!

5. The Beauty Crop Eyeshadow Trio

I have 100s of browns/neutrals/orange tones in my makeup collection so this trio didn’t really stand out for me. A quick swatch revealed that the shadows aren’t very pigmented at all and would be more suited to a really (really really) natural and light makeup look, which isn’t what I’m about. The bronze/gold shade top left was really shimmery though, probably my favourite and one I would use more often. The other two shades didn’t interest me as much though. But maybe it’s because I just have too much makeup to begin with! Again with most of these products from Birchbox, the shadows are vegan and cruelty free so I applaud this brand for doing so.

6. Percy & Reed Finishing Polish

I had already received a Percy & Reed product in my November Birchbox (I thought I had reviewed this box in my blog but I hadn’t….ooops!), which I absolutely loved. I really enjoy trying new hair products (as you can probably tell) but I never know where to start or what to buy. This product is AMAZING. I have used it a few times after styling my hair to tame the frizz and give the ends a bit of body rather than just hanging there all limp and boring. The smell is gorgeous and this product really works. I honestly can’t wait to buy the full size version, but only when it hits pay day of course…

As always I’m really not disappointed with this month’s Birchbox. I think what they do is amazing and I wish I had of thought of the idea myself! Do you guys subscribe to any other subscription boxes that you’d recommend?

Stay tuned for March’s review – and I swear I will do this one! x

  1. I agree I don’t know why anyone would mix grapefruit with cinnamon? Haha it’s funny what they come up with sometimes. I saw Emily Noel use a pencil concealer, L’oreal do one and it seemed to work really well. Good review hun xx

  2. Too bad that there wasn’t a 50’s option. I absolutely love the 50s! The packaging really does scream 90s, though. It adds to the 90s vibes and I love it! Too bad the hair mask was so hard to spread. Some products sound wonderful and others sound a bit disappointing. But I’ve heard very good stories about this box!
